Addresses
What Is A Crypto Address?
An address on the blockchain, like a physical address or a website, is a string of text that identifies a certain location or user. To be more precise, it's a string of text that identifies a specific wallet on the blockchain, from which digital assets can be sent or received.
The wallet addresses of all blockchains are in the form of a long string of letters and numbers in a line of text that is tough for a human to decipher but easy for a computer network to understand.
In the case of Bitcoin, an address might look like this: 1CKa7k7RtaV4TRRcnjciVndBS8hNG1G9ip
An address on the Ethereum network has the following format: 0x77dce4813eC15650e57E1.
It is feasible to see how much and what type of digital assets are in most wallets because of the public nature of the majority of blockchains. However, this is not the case with private blockchains or privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Monero.
Since no personal information is required to create a new wallet address on the blockchain, most bitcoin addresses on a network are anonymous. It's important to note that some IP addresses are associated with specific individuals or organizations, so they're not fully anonymous.
For example, the Ethereum addresses of Vitalik Buterin are well-known to the general public. Even Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin addresses have enormous quantities of BTC linked to them.
Many tools and software exist to monitor bitcoin wallets and trace the movement of digital assets, making it possible for anybody with access to the public blockchain to follow the movement of digital assets.
