Airdrops are a type of distribution that occurs when a cryptocurrency or blockchain project gives out free digital assets to anybody who has an active wallet address on that network.
This is not to be confused with the distribution of tokens or coins during an ICO. Alternate currency or token is frequently used to purchase digital assets during ICOs. For airdrops, there is no need for the recipient to purchase the assets, therefore they are given out free of charge.
Promoting a coin or token through an airdrop is a great way to get the word out about it while also increasing the pool of people who own it.
At the time of the of the current state of the blockchain at that particular point in time, users must hold a specified amount in a public wallet in order to be eligible for an airdrop.
